Ministry To Embark On Women Mass Literacy Programme
The Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs will soon embark on a mass literacy programme for women in areas that would empower the women economically.
Speaking during the stakeholders meeting on women mass literacy project, Monday, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Manuela George-Izunwa said the project will entail training women in various skills in he 23 local government area, particularly, the rural areas.
She stated that the mass literacy is very essential to poverty eradication and sustainable women development.
The skills to be established in the 23 LGAs include; fruits cottage industry Weaving and Grinding machines, production of annual feeds, as well as cassava and starch processing mill. Others are establishment of livestock and fish farm, tomato processing mill, poultry fish farm, departmental stores and canning/drying machines.
The commissioner, stated that the essence of the stakeholders meeting was to develop a holistic blueprint that will guide the successful implementation of the mass literacy project in the LGAs.
