The Federal Government is set to commission an ultra-modern pollution management facility in Tin Can Island in Lagos in a bid to reduce cargo residue from ships and ensure cleaner water for shipping operations in Nigeria in line with the International Maritime Organisation convention.
The firm handling the project, African Circle Pollution Management Limited, recently took delivery of two of the four brand new vessels which are part of the equipment designed to clean the sea and ensure pollution-free water for safe navigation in Lagos waters.
Before now, the company has expanded not less than $43 million to equip the waste reception, disposal, storage and processing facility which will be commissioned by the federal government in September.
The company also plans to invest another $25 million within the next three years on the project, in order to meet the desire of the nation to comply with international standards.
Mr. Emmanuel Ayodele, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, said African Circle has already installed G-Force Waste Oil processing plant and has developed a piece of land for waste reception and processing facility at the Snake Island Integrated free zone. He added that two high burn techtrol incinerators had been installed with scrubbers.

Others, Ayodele said, are drum washing and crushing machine for metal drums, drum sawing machine for plastic drums, hazardous waste sorting area, and commissioning of 155 tone solid waste collection tracks, as well as the signing of technical joint venture agreements with Mari Oeniz and Environmental Protection Services of Isranbul Turkey for support in oil spill response and environmental services.
