Galaxy Partners MTN On Customers’ Internet Service
Galaxy Backbone has selected GSM operator, MTN Nigeria, for the provision of efficient and reliable internet service to its downstream customers.
The firm is a public enterprise of the federal government with primary mandate of setting up and operating a unified Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure platform that addresses the connectivity and other technology needs of ministries departments and agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government.
It also operates a country-wide network backbone aimed at assisting in the facilitation of the digital inclusion of under-served areas and rural communities towards the realisation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
Under the terms of agreements, Galaxy Backbone is taking up capacity from MTN to provide internet service to its downstream customers.
The corporate services executive, MTN Nigeria, Wale Goodluck, noted that Nigerian businesses are gradually becoming one of the most rapidly developing and technologically driven on the continent.
The chief technical officer of the firm, Martin Ahachi, explained that the partnership with MTN is in line with Galaxy’s business strategy of maintaining multiple sources of upstream internet protocol (IP) Service.
Ahachi, hinted that this will in turn enable Galaxy Backbone to provide reliable and sustainable IP connectivity services.
The Tide, however, leant that with MTN’s position as one of the leading providers of bulk IP and fibre optic transport in the country, that it has the capacity of meeting Galaxy’s stringent requirements for fail-over-back-up source in the event of service outage on its fibre backbone cable.
