Akwa Ibom Govt Donates Vehicles To Police
Akwa Ibom State government, has donated 31 Hilux vehicles and three Armoued Personnel Carriers (APCS) worth millions of naira to the Nigerian Police to strengthen its operations in the state.
Mike Okiro, Inspector-General of Police, while on a two-day working visit to the state, commissioned the vehicles along with 32 tractors, 40 inter-city buses and six 911 trucks for traders.
Okiro, accompanied by Azubuike Udeh, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr Walter Rugbere, Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police and top police personnel to Ibom Hall, venue of the ceremony, commended the governor for the provision of the vehicles to the police.
He acknowledged the various contributions made by the government to the police in crime prevention which according to him, has helped reduce crime to the barest minimum.
Okiro stressed the need for government at the three tiers and the public to partner with the police in the fight against crime. “All stakeholders must cooperate with the police to ensure a safe environment”, he said.
Okiro also commissioned 40 city buses, 100 taxis, 31 ambulance vehicles and 21 graders for the state and local governments. He further commissioned seven bullet proof gunboats donated by Nigerian Police Force to Akwa Ibom government.
Chief Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom State governor, thanked the inspector-general for commissioning the vehicles and the gunboats, noting that without security, development could not take place. “We have made huge investments in the tourism, infrastructure and education sectors. We have to take security seriously in order to protect our investment for posterity.”
