Ilerika Rues COVID-19 Impact On National Team
Coach of Nigeria’s U15 national team Haruna Ilerika has rued the current COVID-19 pandemic and described the effects on the developmental national teams as a very big setback.
Speaking in a chat with Tidesports source, Ilerika said the Covid-19 lockdown has affected the NFF’s U13 competition which was supposed to have begun at the state level before the national level.
He added that this competition is the bedrock where young players are mostly picked and penciled down for the developmental U15 national teams.
“Concerning the youth development programme, the federation has put so many things in place before the incident of Covid-19 happened we were on the verge of preparing for the NFF U13 competition at the state level.
And it is through this process that we normally get most of these boys that we use for developmental purposes. But the Covid-19 episode now has affected greatly what is supposed to be the competition where we are supposed to get these boys from.”
