Rivers Monarchs Unveil Committees On Lockdown
Eze Gbakagbaka and Eze Evo Kingdom, King Frank Adiele Eke and Eze Akpor, King Anele Iriebe, have both set up committees to monitor the lock down against coronavirus in their various domains.
In separate interviews with The Tide at the weekend, the both monarchs said the move was to give boost to what the state government was doing towards checking the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
With the directive of the governor on traditional rulers to help in enforcing the lockdown in their domains, Eze Adiele stated that the committee set up in the kingdom was to monitor compliance of the lockdown such that no markets and drinking joints, meetings are allowed to operate in the area.
On his part, Eze Akpor Kingdom, said he had directed the committee to enlighten the indigenes of the area on the need to use sanitizers and observe the usual hygiene habits of keeping social distance and avoiding handshaking.
King Iriebe further stated that, “ I have equally directed that all community vigilante groups and Community Development Committees join to enforce the directive of the governor.”
The Akpor Kingdom monarch expressed satisfaction over the level of compliance, while pleading on the residents of the area to sacrifice a little for the safety of everybody, assuring them that things will soon return to normal.
Consequently, royal fathers in Rumuolemeni and Elelenwo have commended the governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for the way and manner he demonstrated zeal in ensuring that state records low coronavirus infection.
Paramount Ruler of Rumuolemeni Town, Eze Ndubueze Wobo Okocha, told newsmen at the weekend that he personally monitored the lockdown in his domain.
He said the directive was for the good of everybody, and urged residents to obey so as to ensure their health and safety.
Paramount Ruler of Elelenwo, Eze Sunny Chuku, said the lockdown being experienced would certainly curb the spread of the pandemic.
The Elelenwo traditional ruler commended the governor for measures so far put in place to alleviate the sufferings of the citizens, such as paying of civil servants and providing relief and food materials to people.
Meanwhile, Eze Gbakagbaka, Adiele Eke, has commended the governor for pardoning the Obio/ Akpor Local Government chairman and his deputy on their suspension over failure to enforce lock down in their area.
Eze Eke said the action was a demonstration that the governor was the father of all and administrator who believed in fair play and justice.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
