Recruitment: Intervene In Lingering NPF, PSC’s Feud, Sani Tells Buhari
Senator formerly representing Kaduna Central at the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, intervene in the lingering feud between the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission.
The Police and the Commission has been in a turf war over the recruitment of 10,000 constables, with the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, insisting that it is the right of the Force to conduct the exercise.
Adamu had, consequently, seized the list of candidates who participated in the recruitment exercise, and had gone ahead to invite them for medical screening.
The Police Service Commission, however, vowed to remove the names of candidates who did not participate in the recruitment process, noting that “a genuine list” will be released after the “strange names” might have been “weeded out.”
The PSC chairman, Musiliu Smith, had complained to President Muhammadu Buhari, who during a meeting last Tuesday, made it clear to the IG that the PSC has the constitutional mandate to handle the recruitment and promotion of personnel in the Police.
However, taking to his verified Twitter handle @ShehuSani
Yesterday, Senator Sani had tweeted: “The President should urgently step forward to address the lingering conflict between the Nigerian Police and the Police Service Commission over the recruitment issues currently at hand.”
