Court Stops Masar, Others From Excommunicating Delta Community Leader
A Delta State High Court sitting in Otor Udu has restrained the senior spokesman of Ekennwharen Street, Ekakpamre community, Chief Alfred Masar and six others in Ughelli South Local Government Area from excommunicating and preventing the President-General of the community, Prince Victor Bighoro and members of Ishere/Shere and Korhe families from entering the town.
Justice C.E. Achilefu, who gave the order while ruling on a motion-on-notice by P.O Onota, counsel to the claimants/applicants, Bighoro, Barrister Eric Edjemre and 10 others for themselves and on behalf of Ekakpamre community, excluding Masar and six others, which counsel to Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc, O. Overah, did not oppose.
The court also restrained Masar and six others from “demanding and/or receiving from the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), Ekakpamre Community Trust, PGMoU/GMoU and/or from other person(s) or any contractor(s) engaged by NPDC in connection with any project(s) in Oria bush in Ekakpamre community, otherwise known as Ughelli West B location or from their agents any money/monies, homage(s) sum(s) and or any other benefits without the written consent and authority of Prince Bighoro as the legal representative of the Shere family or Ishere/Korhe families and Erhobor or Rabor families of Ekakpamre community.”
Justice Achilefu further ordered the defendants, their agents and privies to desist “from disturbing the status quo ante bellum in this suit pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.”
