Commissioner Lauds Retired Nurses For Humanitarian Services
The Cross River State
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong has lauded members of the Retired Nurses Association of Nigeria (RNAN), Calabar branch for providing humanitarian services through their outreach programmes on eye care, blood pressure screening, among other health care services to members of the public.
Dr. Asibong made the commendation while granting audience to the State chapter of the Retired Nurses Association of Nigeria, Calabar branch, led by the Chairman, Mrs. Utang Aisien in her office.
She promised the collaboration of the Ministry with members of the Association, noting that the experiences and skills gained by the members could readily be used in the health care delivery system of the State.
“You are retired but not tired as I can see from your bright faces. The State Government is disposed to working with you for the well being and healthy living of the citizenry”, she said.
Dr. Asibong intimated the retired nurses that the school of Nursing and school of midwifery would start admitting student nurses soon as modalities had been put on ground to that effect, adding that the Ministry was collaborating effectively with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to fight and eradicate fake drugs from the State.
Earlier, the Calabar Branch Chairman of the Retired Nurses Association of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter, Mrs. Utang Aisien who spoke through the Secretary, Pastor Bassey Etim stated that members were ready to assist the state government in healthcare delivery.
She called on the State Government to consider their members for appointment into the management committees of government hospitals, which according to her will help improve the situation in hospitals and health care delivery in general.
She used the occasion to congratulate Dr. Asibong on her well-deserved appointment and wished her a successful tenure.
