Confed Cup: Dolphins Fail To Impress Supporters
Despite surviving the
threat of Equatorial Guinea side, Leones Vegetarianos to quality for the preliminary round of the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup, Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt has failed to impress its supporters with its performances so far this year.
Dolphins struggled to edge out Vegetarinos via penalty shootout after a 1-1 aggregate score at the weekend and failed to win a match at the Super 4 play off in Abuja, where they score only one goal, to finish bottom of the table in the six-team tournament.
Speaking to Tidesports at the Liberation Stadium, shortly after Dolphins survived edged out Vegetarianos, chairman of Dolphins Supporters Club, Franklin Owhor said that he was disappointed with the team’s performance, which failed to impress fans and supporters.
According to him, the team has been unimpressive and is lacking effective striker that would be converting chances created. Owhor believe that the club was yet to overcome the exit of Emem Eduok and fill the void left by him.
“Dolphins need a top striker that can wear the shoes of Emem Eduok. From the recent performances of the team, it’s obvious that the team has been having difficulty scoring goals.
“Honestly, we are missing Eduok and we need some effective replacement urgently,” said the chairman.
He called on the club’s coaches to work on the team, especially in the art of goal scoring as the players seem to have the penchant to throwing away glaring goal opportunities.
The supporters’ club chairman used the forum to advise the players not to be distracted despite their salary and bonus irregularities, saying that they should see football as their career
“I want to say that players being owed salaries and allowances should not be an excuse for indiscipline, poor performance and failure.
“They should see the game of football as their personal investment,” he stated.
