Youths Flay Call To Dissolve NDDC Board
Youths in the Niger
Delta say the call to remove the six months old Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) led by Chief Dan Abia is a ploy to distract the Board from attaining its development objectives for the region.
The youths operating under the aegis of Eye of the Niger Delta, (END) said it was too early to discredit or judge the newly inaugurated board, and urged them to have confidence in the board to enable them make meaningful progress in the development of the Niger Delta.
Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt recently, the leader of the group, Tari Victor Ben said there were no indications that the Board would be a failure, drawing from the calibrea and pedigree of the Board members.
He advised those calling for the dissolution of the Board to desist from the acts of blackmail and allow the new Board to translate their policies and ideologies into concrete development in the region.
He also cautioned against the activities of persons causing disaffection in the polity by using pseudo names to make inflammatory statements in the media. “Last weekend an organisation placed an advert in one of the national dailies, discrediting the NDDC Board on account of non performance, but it is sad for anybody or group of persons to call for the removal of a six month old board” he stated.
The body also called on the new NDDC Board to remain focused and not be distracted by the activities of ‘mischief makers’, stating that the development of the Niger Delta remains a foremost objective that must be achieved through collective effort of all stakeholders.
