Community Tasks GSM Providers On Phone Facilities
The people of Ogborie in
Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, have called on mobile telephones service providers in the country to make available telephone facilities in the area.
The people stated this in an interview with newsmen in Ogborie.
They said that the facilities were necessary to enable them to communicate effectively with the rest of the world.
A farmer, Mr Efetobor Ojarikre, said there were no MTN, Glo or Etisalat telecommunication masts in the community.
Ojarikre said that to get MTN service one needed to go a particular spot inside a dangerous bush in the village to make or receive calls.
He said that the situation had posed a lot of social and economic difficulties to the people, adding that businessmen and women in the community could not communicate with their customers outside.
Another indigene, Mr Festus Ajari, said that the people could get Glo network intermittently in the morning in some parts of the community.
According to him, an oil pipeline passes through the area and the people should be able to communicate effectively with law enforcement agencies in case of vandalisation of the pipeline.
Mrs Onome Ese said that her relatives and friends outside the community often complained of the situation when they visited, especially during festive periods.
Ese said that some indigenes of the community were now reluctant to visit home as a result.
She appealed to Delta government to come to their aide by liaising with the service provider to remedy the situation.
