RSG Spends N103bn On Federal Roads
Rivers State Government says it has spent about N103 billion in fixing federal roads in the state.
The Rivers State Governor, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi who disclosed this yesterday in his broadcast to people of the state stated that in spite of several representations and letters to the Federal Government, no refund had been made.
He accused the Federal Government of abandoning all its projects in the state as a deliberate policy to discourage investments from coming into the state.
He said the national good governance tour provided a good opportunity for the Federal Government to show case its presence in Rivers State”, regretting that the tour showed , that there was not much to show in the state that is the cash cow of the federation.”
Declaring that his stand on the present political reality of the country was driven by his vision to bring opportunities and benefits of good governance to Rivers people, Governor Amaechi said his disagreement was with some negative forces that stood against the entitlement of Rivers people.
He remarked that he was elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party with the goal of edging out the military and ensuring a return to democratic rule but expressed disappointment that 14 years in democracy, the vestiges of military dictatorship had remained with the nation, especially in the context of managing the party.
“Unfortunately, recent events within PDP have given me reason to reconsider our collective interest as people of the South-South and indeed as Rivers people”, he noted.
He re-affirmed the commitment of his administration to the emancipation of the long-suffering people of Niger Delta and said the pursuit of politics of self-interest at the expense of development was not the best way of ensuring justice and equity for the region.
“Drafting the Police to cause confusion in Rivers State is not more urgent than completing the East-West Road or bringing in investments that will create jobs and prosperity for our people”, he maintained.
