Rivers Celebrates Eminent Persons Morrow, In PH

Nigeria’s famed Garden City, Port Harcourt goes agog tomorrow, as the Government and People of Rivers State assemble to celebrate, success, in leadership, Industry the Law, Academics, Sports, Womanhood and indeed Politics among other endeavours.
The occasion is the formal presentation of the much expected book, ‘Eminent Persons of Rivers State’, a compendium of best and brightest of Nigeria’s oil industry capital; and seat of South-South Political Power.
The work, a best-seller by the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Publishers of The Tide Group of Newspapers, contains a comprehensive compilation of not only history makers, rare political achievers and leaders, it also profiles what can pass as the most comprehensive who is who, project ever in Rivers State.
A statement in Port Harcourt, yesterday, signed by the General Manager of the Corporation, Mr. Celestine Ogolo said the event which is billed to hold at the Ministry of Justice Auditorium in the morning, shall have the state Governor, and Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as Special Guest of Honour while, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt Sir Tonye Okocha is to chair the occasion.
Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communication, Mrs Ibim Semenitari is Chief Host, Chairman, Greater Port Harcourt Development Board, Mr. Tonye Cole is Guest of Honour, while the Book Reviewer is Prof Steve Okodudu of the University of Port Harcourt.
Chairperson of the Planning Committee and Director, Publication of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Juliet Njiowhor, in an interview with reporters yesterday described as bewildering, public response to the ‘Eminent Persons of Rivers State project, even before the public presentation tomorrow.
As at the last count, she said 588 subscribers have placed orders for copies of the work and thanked the Rivers state government and other stakeholders for the support.
Mrs Njiowhor enjoined scholars of evolution of Rivers history and politics, Professional bodies, youth organizations, Civil Society groups, the mass media and indeed the general public to attend.
Highlight of tomorrow’s event is the official unveiling of the ‘Eminent Persons of Rivers State’ by Governor Amaechi.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
