2014 W/Cup Play Off: NFF Ignorant Of Jonathan’s Plan
The Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) has said that it is unaware of any promise by President Goodluck Jonathan to facilitate chartered flights to Addis Ababa for the Ethiopia/Nigeria match.
The Super Eagles will on October 13 face Ethiopia’s Walya Antelopes in a first leg match in the Brazil 2014 final qualification round.
Chairman of the NFA, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, however told newsmen in Abuja that the association was unaware of such development.
“I have not come across such information, even though I will thank President Jonathan for such magnanimity. I know he is concerned about the goals of Nigerian football.
“I believe he will do everything humanly possible to ensure that Nigerian youths and football in this country develop.
“So, if that assurance of two chartered planes carrying Nigerians to Addis Ababa is true, then it is fine,” he said.
The NFA chairman said the association was still working on the issue of a benchmark amount as approved match bonus for the Super Eagles.
He said a ministerial committee had already sent its report and recommendation to Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi on the issue.
“It will appear improper for me to comment on the issue of match bonus when the report of the committee is still lying on the minister’s table,” Maigari said.
