200 Rivers Youth Get Starter Packs ‘Morrow
Two Hundred unemployed youth of Rivers State, will tomorrow, in Port Harcourt be presented with starter packs including computers and ICT based operational tools.
The gesture is part of a comprehensive youth empowerment programme intended to eradicate poverty, meaningfully engage the youth and encourage self-dependence among the beneficiaries, for sustainable growth.
Rivers State Commissioner for Youth Development, Sir Owene Wonodi told The Tide exclusively, that the programme aimed at challenging the youth to seek honourable vocations grounded in self-reliance, responsible living and dignity of labour.
The beneficiaries, he said had been trained in various skills, stressing that the starter packs would help the graduands into the employment market as employers of labour, in the future.
Sir Wonodi commended the State Governor, Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for his foresight, support and sensitivity towards the plight of the youth, which he said, informed success of the training scheme and assured the beneficiaries of continued government supervision to ensure positive results.
The Tide learnt that tomorrow’s programme would also be used to unravel plans for the training of the next set of beneficiaries at the end of which, they too would be empowered to pursue self-employment and create jobs for others.
