Mark Urges Harmony Among Govt Arms
Senate President David Mark, has called for a harmonious working relationship among the three arms of government in order to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
Mark made the call on Tuesday in Abuja when the Speaker and members of the Benue State House of Assembly paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He said that a smooth working relationship between the executive arm of government and the legislature was sine qua non for meaningful development.
“Both the executive and the legislature have a common agenda to serve the people and see to their welfare and security.
“So, there is no reason or need for any friction, where there is disagreement or discrepancy, dialogue remains the best option.”
According to Mark, without compromising the independence of the legislature as the watch dog of the executive, both arms of government mutually exist under one government.
“Neither the legislature nor the executive should operate as if they are in opposition.”
He commended the Benue legislature, the government and people of the state for their support, and promised to do all within his power to bring honour and pride to them.
“I will always do what is right and legitimate. I will continue to be fair, honest, just and firm in the discharge of my duties.”
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Sen. Ayogu Eze, said government had adopted a twin approach to address the bad state of roads in the country.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Benue legislature, Mr David Iorhemba, had commended Mark for his maturity, steadfastness and commitment to the ideals of nationhood.
