RSG Warns School Contractors
The Rivers State Government, has issued a two week ultimatum to contractors handling the State model secondary schools projects to complete them or have their contracts terminated.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Nemi issued the warning yesterday during a meeting with contractors in Port Harcourt.
The Education Commissioner said that any contractor who refused to go back to the project sites, particularly the projects in Omuma, Oyigbo and Emohua local government areas of the state at the expiration of the two weeks, contracts terminated immediately.
She said, there were no reasons for the contractors to abandon the school projects half way after collecting huge payment for the projects.
In a press statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Richard Ofuru the commissioner said that government would consider any failing contractor an enemy of the State, who did not want the progress of the State.
He urged the contractors to double their effort to meet the set target of the state government.
Meanwhile, education secretaries in the 23 local government areas of the state have been charged to boost education at their local government areas in line with the state government’s policy on quality education.
The state Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Nemi gave the charge while hosting the education secretaries of the 23 local government areas in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Dame Nemi also told them to be part of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and teachers training education system in the state.
She reassured the secretaries of the support of the state government in the discharge of their duties.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Education, Richard Ofuru charged the secretaries to work together with the education board and zonal directors for effective education policy in the local government areas of the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of the National Association of Education Secretaries , Rivers State chapter, Mr Samuel Gilbert Dodo said they were poised to ensure quality education in the state.
