Gumel Elected ANOC’s Exco Member
A member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Nigeria’s Habu Ahmed Gumel has been elected into the Executive Council of the elite Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
Gumel told Tidesports source from Acapulco on Saturday that he was elected into the council on Oct. 20, in Acapulco, Mexico during the biennial General Assembly Meeting of the 205 member nations of ANOC.
The Assembly was attended by NOCs, the International Sports Federations (Ifs) and other the Olympic Family members.
Gumel, the immediate past president of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), will serve from 2010 to 2014.
The ANOC General Assembly takes place biennially and discussed updates from the organising committees of upcoming Olympic Games, winter and summer Games.
It also had the opportunity to receive briefings from cities bidding for 2018, the executive boards of ANOC and the IOC as well as a focus on the needs and business of running the NOCs.
