Mobil To Clean Up Contaminated Shoreline In Akwa Ibom
Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), an affiliate of US oil firm Exxon Mobil, has promised to clean up the shoreline in Akwa Ibom contaminated by crude from one of its offshore pipelines.
A statement signed by Mrs. Gloria Essien-Dannar, Mobil’s Director in-charge of External Relations, said the company would continue to monitor the area for the clean-up of any residual deposit resulting from the oil leak.
The statement was made available to The Tides On Sunday source in Eket on Friday.
“Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPN), operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) MPN Joint Venture, confirms that on June 20, 2010, deposits of weathered hydrocarbon were found along the shoreline of Ibeno, Akwa Ibom State.
“MPN immediately deployed a team to inspect the site and sections of the shoreline contaminated with oil will be cleaned immediately”.
“MPN restated its commitment to maintaining high safety, health and environmental standards in our operations and is committed to the well-being of our neighbouring communities”, the statement said.
National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDA) on Thursday, confirmed that it had received a report of the incident and commenced investigation.
NOSDRA officials who visited the spill site reported sighting crude deposits along the Atlantic coastline in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom.
Mobil runs a 960,000 barrels per day capacity crude oil export terminal off Akwa Ibom in a joint venture with NNPC.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
