Academic Unions To Begin Warning Strike, February 15

Workers under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI), Academic Staff Union of Colleges of Agriculture (ASUCA), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and senior staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAK) have threatened to commence a five-day warming strike from February 15, over refusal of government to review the salaries and allowances of members.

The JAC explained that leaders of the four unions decided to ones again shift the commencement from January to February 15, hoping that government would see the need to stop industrial wrest in the sectors.

Addressing Journatlists, President of ASUCA, Dr. Adeboye Adejuyigbe, on behalf of the leaders of the four unions, lamented governments deliberate and consistent neglect of the affected sectors in the scheme of things.

Detaining their grievances, Adejuyigbe explained that the issue that necessited the briefing was the refusal of the Federal Government to constitute a negotiation committee between if and the unions in the Research/Development Institutions and colleges of Agriculture, to nregotiate salaries and conditions of service for staff of the sector.

“The unions decided to give, and indeed gave a February 14-day grace period, which terminates on February 15, 2010, to enable the government constitute the Negotiation committee, failing which the unions will embark on a five-day warning strike with effect from February 15, 2010,” the ASUCA boss said.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.
