Senator Urges Writers To Produce More Books
The people of Ogu in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, have been told to imbibe the culture of writing books for posterity.
The Senator, representing Rivers-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, made the call during a book launch titled, “Nigeria- Biafra War, The Ogu story and a peep beyond”, written by Mr Charles Davids held at the Ogu Civic Arena recently.
Senator Sekibo said the culture, history and traditional of the people of Ogu is fast eroding, pointing out that the culture and the life of the people could be revived through such documentations, reflecting on the past history of the people, so that the future generation could learn and benefit from the past.
He urged the youths who are privileged to develop the interest of writing books so that others could follow their footsteps, saying that a community without history is far from existing.
The federal lawmaker lauded the author, Mr Charles Davids for his efforts and stressed the need for the people to teach their children the culture and tradition, especially the dialects of the people.
In their separate remarks, among others, the pioneer Sole Administrator of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council, Hon Richard Alamina, a former chairman of Ogu/Bolo Council of Chiefs, Chief S.T. Anga, and Elder Kariboro Joseph commended the author and expressed optimism that more people would be gingered to write books on different aspects, enjoining all to regard local language as a way of life of a people.
Earlier, Mr Charles Davids thanked all sacrificing part of their time in partaking in the exercise, noting that the book was written without prejudice to any ethnic group or the principal actors of evacuation, molestation, brutality, humiliation and torture of innocent war, but a historical expose to inform the younger generation the rough roads their fathers trod during the civil war.
The book launch was attended by dignitaries from all walks of life.
