CARNIRIV: RSG Declares Today Work Free Day
The Rivers State Government has declared today a work-free day in the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Mrs Ibim Semenitari made this known, Wednesday, while briefing Government House correspondents on the outcome of the state Executive Council meeting in Port Harcourt.
The Commissioner said the decision to declare today a work free day was borne out of the desire to give the people of the state ample time to participate in this year’s carnival procession for the state cultural festival, CARNIRIV.
Mrs Semenitari, who enjoined all residents of the state to use the opportunity offered by the carnival to catch fun, noted that Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and all members of the State Executive Council have purchased their costumes for the event.
“We urge residents of Port Harcourt to take cognizance of carnival routes during Friday’s event to avoid traffic congestion and please come out in your numbers to enjoy the carnival”, she pleaded. Also, speaking the Commissioner for Lands, Chief Ezemonye Ezekiel said the Executive Council had decided to commence a new land information and revalidation system in the state, adding that the process would commence with an enlightenment programme on the processes and benefits derivable by property owners.
“The Executive Council has approved the revalidation of survey plans as well as the automation of the process with effect from January, 2010”, he said.
