Manager Wants Hitch free Spires 5-Aside divisional qualifiers
After a highly successful tournament in Ikeja, which produced Wasola FC, Blood & Sand and Amsterdam FA as the qualified teams from the division, the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament season 2 divisional qualifying train is set for its next stop in Ikorodu.
With eight accredited teams set to battle for the three available slots in the division, hostilities will get on the way by noon on Saturday (today) at Deeonis Football Court, Ota-Ona, Ikorodu.
In the fixtures slated for match-day one, Better Tomorrow ISA will lock horns against Marine Boyz in the opening match, while Diamond FC will file out against New Generation FC in the second game.
Action resumes again on Sunday, May 11. Orion & Leon FC will square up against Opopo Ona-Iwo Mimo FC, while Evagrine FC will hope to secure a win against Oladunjoye FC in the second match of the day.
The program manager of the Spires 5-Aside Tourney, Mr Akin Odunsi, said all arrangements have been completed to ensure a hitch-free tournament in Ikorodu.
We had a splendid event in Ikeja, and we hope to leverage on it as we envisage another successful tournament in the Oga division of Ikorodu.
“The football community in Ikorodu is very impressive and we are working closely with the divisional football association to create a coterie engagement and social interaction around the tournament before, during and after the matches,” Odunsi added.
Aside from securing a spot in the 16-team tournament, the first-placed teams in each of the divisional qualifiers will receive the sum of N500,000, the first runner-up will pocket N300,000, while the third-placed side will get the sum of N100,000 as prize money.
Sixteen teams across the five divisions in Lagos will compete in the 2025 Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tourney. Three teams will qualify from each division, as well as the overall best loser across the board.

PH To Host 2026 NWFL Super Six
In a statement released by the league, the competition is scheduled to take place from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, with six clubs set to battle for the league title at the end of the 2025/26 season.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the choice of Port Harcourt reflects the Rivers State Government’s continued support for women’s football and its successful hosting of the league’s Annual General Assembly last year.
The Super Six tournament will feature the top three teams from Group A and Group B of the regular season competing in a round-robin format, with each club playing five matches over nine days.
Qualified teams for the competition include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and debutants Abia Angels.
The NWFL Premiership has produced four different winners in the last five editions, with Rivers Angels winning in 2021, Bayelsa Queens claiming the title in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens triumphing in 2023, and Edo Queens emerging champions in 2024.
The league also urged participating clubs to comply with all competition regulations and directives ahead of the championship. The Super Six will determine Nigeria’s representative for the WAFU-B qualifiers for a place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and ultimately the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
Teams are expected to arrive on Friday, June 5, when the draw ceremony and pre-match meeting will also take place. Matchdays are scheduled for June 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14, with rest days in between before the tournament concludes with the trophy presentation ceremony.
