Elekahia Residents Groan Under Power Outage
Residents of Elekahia Community and its environs have berated the authorities of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) over their perceived negligence to the power outage experienced in the area for the past three weeks.
Some residents of the area who spoke with The Tide at the weekend, said they have been in total darkness for over three weeks today, with officials of PHED, giving no explanation for the power outage.
A community leader, Mr Tony Boms who spoke with our correspondent said the situation has become worrisome to the people as they were not briefed over the cause of the power outage.
“We are just kept in suspense, PHED has not given any explanation over the power outage, not everybody has money to buy a generator set, most people depend on public power supply, we deserve to be informed of the situation on ground, this is quite disturbing”.
Another resident, simply known as Mr Adezor, expressed bitterness over the power outage experienced in the area for over three weeks now.
“It is complete three weeks today that we have been in darkness, PHED has proven to be incompetent in the delivery of power supply, I want to call on the government to allow more service providers into the system to save us from this embarrassment.”
Also commenting, a trader and resident of Elekahia community, Mrs Comfort Amadi, said the authorities of PHED, were only out to frustrate the people by “deliberately” keeping them uninformed about the reason for the power outage. She regretted the fact that the officials of PHED still bring “outrageous” bills, without addressing the prolonged power outage experienced in the area.
She called on the government to put eyes on the activities of PHED and save the people from suffering.
When contacted, the Corporate/Public Affairs Manager of PHED, John Onyi did not pick his calls.
