Group Tasks S’South Govs On Food Prices
A Niger Delta-based non-governmental organisation, Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta (PAFOND), has called on the governors of the South South States to set up task force with a view to bringing down the prices of food items in the zone.
It said time has come for a task force to monitor and bring down the cost of food items in the zone.
The forum said this in a press release made available to newsmen at the end of its National Executive Council meeting in Port Harcourt.
According to the release signed by its National Chairman, Comrade Owoh Udoh, there is need for the governors to set up task forces in their respective states to check the unnecessary hike in the prices of food stuff in their States.
Udoh lamented the high cost of food items in the South South zone and argued that the current fuel price and cost of transportation are not enough reason for marketers to unnecessarily increase the prices of food items, adding that the situation is affecting the living conditions of the people.
Udoh commended the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for setting up a committee on food security and urged other governors in the zone to do same.
He also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the refineries are producing to bring down the cost of fuel in the country.
