Commissioner Assures Deltans Of Quality Road Projects
The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Mr Reuben Izeze, has assured the people of the State of getting value for their money in terms of road infrastructural projects.
Izeze stated this while inspecting some ongoing road projects in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State last Saturday.
Izeze noted that good road infrastructure was a key component of the “MORE agenda” of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration, adding that the present administration was determined to make huge success in that regard.
The Commissioner, who was conducted round the project sites by the Chairman of Obakpor Engineering, handlers of the projects, Chief John Oguma, said his office would not compromise standards on road projects under its supervision.
Izeze, a former member of the State House of Assembly, disclosed that the four major link road projects in Ughelli Urban were awarded to decongest the daily gridlock at the Otowodo junction of the Ughelli-Patani East-West Road and the environs.
He commended the contracting firm for the meaningful progress made on the job only a few weeks after they were mobilized to site.
He said that for the sake of durability, the state government decided to award concrete roads with drains on both sides to distill water to natural water ways.
The Commissioner also said the government’s decision to expand and complete all critical ongoing projects, including those initiated by the past administrations, was novel and had received so much commendation within and outside the state.
Izeze emphasised that the Governor had offered himself for service and required the support, understanding, patience and cooperation of the people of the state to succeed.
The Commissioner assured the people of the state of regular visits to road project sites across the state for on-the-spot assessment of progress of work as well as to ensure that jobs awarded were being executed according to specifications.
“I must appreciate and acknowledge the high quality of equipment, man power and quality materials deployed by Obakpor Engineering company to execute the project.
“Delta State Government will continue to patronise contractors that deliver quality projects in line with the Ministry’s set standards and specifications”, he said.
Izeze also noted that the era of delivering substandard roads was over, warning that any firm found executing shoddy jobs would face the law and refund every penny paid to it by government.
On his part, Chairman, Obakpor Engineering, Oguma, said his firm had been providing super standard roads and bridges in the state for decades and assured the people of the state of more quality services.
He said the engineering company would continue to invest in high standard equipment and expertise to give its best to the government and people of the State.
