Labour Leader Hails Wike Over Workers’ Promotion, Employment

The immediate past Chairman of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Rivers State Council, Comrade Opuoyibo Lilly-West, has commended the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for approving the implementation of civil servants promotions as well as taking steps to employ 10, 000 personnel into the state Civil Service.
Lilly-West, who made the commendation in an interview in Port Harcourt, said he was extremely happy with the governor’s gesture, especially against the backdrop of the civil service being the live wire of government.
He thanked the governor for the bold initiative, which he said is never politically-motivated but geared towards propelling the workers to increase their productivity.
The labour leader, who is also former Auditor and Ex-officio of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), urged the workers to reciprocate the governor’s gesture.
Lilly-West also applauded the new leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the State led by Comrade Alex Ikechi Agwanwor, who he said is coming from the private sector with a wealth of experience.
He said the new NLC helmsman is humble and competent enough to bring a breath of fresh air into the labour movement in the State, adding that he is capable of fostering the much-needed industrial peace, harmony and unity of purpose among the workforce and the government, devoid of partisan inclinations that would ultimately benefit all workers.
The labour chief equally commended the State Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC), Comrade Emecheta Chuku, for his tenacity of purpose, describing him as the hero of the struggle that has crystallized into the positive wind of change blowing today across the horizon.
He enjoined the workers to remain committed and dedicated to their duties.
