LG Boss Blames Andonis For Unity Road Completion Delay
The Chairman of Andoni Local Government Council, Erastus Awortu, has attributed the delay in completing the Andoni section of the Unity Road to the non-cooperation of Andoni people.
Awortu said this when he hosted members of the Happy Hour Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Rivers State Council at the council’s headquarters in Ngo, during the week.
He urged the people of Andoni to come together and fight against what could be delaying the completion of the road.
“The non-completion of the Andoni section of the Unity Road has a lot to do with Andoni people. That is why we called for a meeting of the government with all Andonis”, he said.
He expressed regrets that the Adonis were still talking about Unity Road’s completion when they should be talking about internal roads.
“Our internal roads are too narrow. We should be talking about tourism going by the construction of the Unity Road. I am unbiased, that is why I can talk with all groups in the area”, he said.
Awortu disclosed that the Rivers State Government has released what he described as a variation fund to ensure speedy completion of the project.
He said that his greatest achievement was in the area of ensuring peace in the local government area, saying the area has recorded zero insecurity since he assumed office as council chairman.
“The trend is now reversed. People have started rebuilding their houses. We have had thanksgiving, for the past one year, no killings in Andoni,” he said.
Earlier, the leader of the NUJ Committee, Dr. Ijeoma Tubosia, said they were at the Council to invite the Chairman and the Council to the NUJ Happy Hour event slated for today.
