Truck Set Ablaze After Crushing Music Director In Edo
A Benin-based music director has been killed by a trailer along the Benin bypass at Ahor N’Uselu in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.
This came barely three days after a yet-to-be unmasked and arrested gunmen opened fire on three men killing them on the spot in the locality.
Sources disclosed that the music director identified simply as Simon was crushed when a commercial motorcycle that he boarded was knocked down by the truck.
He was also said to be the eldest son of his parents who buried his father recently.
It was further gathered that the bike rider sustained injuries as he is on danger list at a hospital.
The accident occurred when both the truck driver and the motorcycle rider were avoiding another trailer that broke down on the busy road.
The unfortunate incident triggered a pandemonium during which irate youths set the truck ablaze in the middle of the road about 10:16a.m on Friday, April 22, 2022.
When our reporter visited the accident scene few minutes after, thick smoke was seen billowing from the ill-fated trailer.
Police personnel from nearby Ahor police outpost with some armed local vigilante members were seen directing other drivers to use opposite lane as alternative route.
The operatives were also on ground when the burnt truck was being towed from the accident spot.
Contacted, the spokesman for Edo State Police Command, SP Kontongs Bello, said the driver of the truck one Abubakar Bashal, 21, had been taken to police custody.
He added that the body of the deceased had been deposited in a morgue.
