“It would be recall that scores of people, including some indigenes of Andoni were killed in the inferno while some persons are still unaccounted for.
“We are deeply pained as a local government council over the unfortunate incident which claimed the lives of breadwinners, family heads, pregnant women and children, some of whom are from Andoni.
“Our hearts and prayers go out, especially to those families of Andoni affected by this avoidable fire disaster.
“While we share in the pain and grief of the bereaved families, we pray that the Almighty God give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loses.
“The timely response by the Rivers State Government to the fire incident which led to the rescue of some persons from the blazing inferno is highly commendable.
“We also applaud measures currently being taken by the State Government to forestall the spate of fire outbreak at the Bonny-Bille-Nembe Jetty in PortHarcourt.
“It is pertinent therefore that we use this medium to call on all Indigenes of Andoni doing business at the jetty or any part of the state to observe high safety standards at all times and adhere strictly to the state government’s stance on illegal oil bunkering which reportedly caused the massive fire outbreak”.
