NSCDC Renews Commitment To Anti-Crude Oil Theft
The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command, Abu AbdulTambuwal has charged all officers and men of the command to a renewed commitment in combating the menace of crude oil theft, illegal dealings in petroleum products and vandalism of oil pipelines in the state.
He made this call during a briefing at the state command headquarters after the occasion of the commissioning of 14 ballistic gunboats donated by the Government of Rivers State to the security operatives in order to enhance the security architecture of the state and bolster the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, most especially the oil pipelines in maritime locations.
Tambuwal, who was conspicuously present along with other service commanders at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder, Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, where Rivers StateGovernor, Chief NyesomWike commissioned the 14 ballistic gunboats, affirmed that the state governor’s magnanimity would further strengthen the war against oil pipeline vandalism in the state.
“We thank the governor for creating enabling environment by providing the logistics to enhance the capacity of members of Anti-Vandal Squad, who are battle ready in the fight against illegal bunkering, dismantling of illegal refineries, crude oil theft, amongst others.
“The need for synergy among relevant security agencies in the state cannot be undermined as this feat would spur the operatives to vehemently combat the aforementioned with a renewed vigour.
“NSCDC as a lead agency in anti-vandalism and safeguarding of all critical national assets and infrastructure would continue to work relentlessly to rid the state from economic saboteurs.
“Rivers State Command under his watch has arrested 11 suspects in connection with illegal dealings in petroleum products, the command also impounded eight trucks and three cars within his one month assumption of office,” he stated.
He reiterated that every suspects arrested would definitely be prosecuted according to the extant laws, urging the good people of the state to collaborate with the NSCDC by giving credible intelligence that would help to nip in the bud all operators of illegal refineries and economic saboteurs in Rivers State.
