Wike Tasks Christians On Establishing God’s Kingdom

Published

on

Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has encouraged Christian faithful in the country to keep up with the good works of establishing the kingdom of God to yield positive results in nation building.
Wike maintained that propagating the works of God such as building a temple for worship was worth commending as everyone who contributes to the growth of the church would be rewarded in the future.
The governor made this observation during the dedication ceremony of the new St. Silas’ Anglican Church building, Eneka in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, yesterday.
Wike, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, observed that church dedication was always an inspirational and joyous moment to express in-depth gratitude to God for the years of common labour and determination of building a temple for God.
The governor said, “I commend His Lordship, Bishop Wisdom Ihunwo, the rector and members of the St. Silas’ Anglican Church, who on their own, galvanised their resources to build this beautiful edifice from foundation to completion to the glory of God.
“We commend and celebrate with you. This is the kind of effort that does not go in vain in the sight of God. God promised to establish King Solomon if he builds Him a temple, and what God says to one, He says to all.
“I also thank you for your unswerving prayers. We are aware you are constantly praying for the governor and the Government of Rivers State. We are not unmindful of the fact that it is the mercy and grace of God that has kept this Government in success.
“The NEW Vision has continued to impact lives with diverse projects despite the diminishing allocation of the states because of your prayers. Please continue to pray. As the Bible states, the prayers of the righteous avails much.
“Pray particularly at this time that as we draw close to elections, people will come to steal your votes by any means possible, but by your prayers we will prevail.
“As a Christian state, the government will continue to match that declaration with action and support every meaningful action of the church in Rivers State and your church will not be an exception”, he added.
During his sermon and drawing inspiration from 1 Kings 8:22-27, Bishop of the Niger Delta North, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Wisdom Ihunwo, admonished worshipers that King Solomon ensured the building and completion of Gods temple before building his own house.
He noted that having built the temple of God, it is important for faithfuls to look inwards at their own lives as the temple of God.
“Building the edifice of worship without an edified human temple is defeated. We are God’s temple and His spirit dwells in us. God created us to always give him glory.
“To be the temple of God, you must be holy, avoid use of substance that abuse the temple such as drugs, alcohol, fornication, adultery, disfigure to the temple…, because when we defile God’s temple, we can’t please him. Do not destroy God’s temple”, he admonished.
The chairman of the Building Committee, thanked the governor and bishop for their presence as he noted that the church was built over a 10 years timeline and that there was no loss during the construction.

President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence that the country would win the fight against insecurity.

The President gave the assurance at the Argungu International Fishing Festival in Argungu town, Kebbi State, on Saturday.

He noted that the relative peace currently being enjoyed in Kebbi and neighbouring states was the result of sustained investments in security intelligence, coordination among security agencies, and community engagement.

Tinubu assured farmers and fishermen of sustained federal support to guarantee food security and safety across the country.

“The peace we are witnessing today is not accidental. It is the outcome of deliberate and sustained efforts. I assure you that the fight against banditry, insurgency, and insecurity will be won.

Guterres Backs Nigeria’s Bid For UN Security Council Seat …Hails Tinubu’s Reforms, Regional Security Role

United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has charged Nigeria with spearheading Africa’s quest for a restructured global order, describing the country as uniquely positioned to lead the continent toward superpower status.

Guterres, who backed Nigeria’s bid for the world body’s security council seat, also praised the economic reforms of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration as well as Nigeria’s leadership in stabilising the Sahel and ECOWAS regions, despite facing its own security challenges.

The UN scribe made the remarks last Friday night during a high-level bilateral meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima on the sidelines of the 39th African Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Speaking during the meeting, Guterres said Nigeria’s large population, sustained democratic governance, vast natural and human resources, and longstanding commitment to multilateralism placed it in a unique position to lead Africa in the evolving global order.

“Given Nigeria’s demographic strength, democratic continuity and deep resource base, the country stands a real chance of leading Africa to becoming the next superpower in the evolving global architecture,” he said.

The UN Secretary-General and the vice president discussed key developments in Nigeria and the country’s expanding leadership role in promoting regional stability across West Africa and the Sahel.

Guterres commended the remarkable and outstanding reforms of the administration of President Tinubu, noting that Nigeria’s bold economic restructuring and security commitments have strengthened its continental standing.

The meeting focused on strengthening Nigeria–UN collaboration to advance global economic growth, peace and security, sustainable development, and a coordinated humanitarian response across Africa.

In his remarks, Shettima thanked the UN Secretary-General for his leadership in advancing global peace, noting that Africa has benefited immensely from his tenure, even as the United Nations undergoes internal restructuring.

“We remain committed to multilateralism and to deepening our partnerships with the United Nations and other global institutions,” the vice president said.

Shettima also reiterated Nigeria’s longstanding call for comprehensive reform of the United Nations system to reflect evolving global realities.

He emphasised that Africa must have stronger representation in global decision-making structures and declared that Nigeria deserves a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Both leaders pledged to deepen cooperation, with Guterres reaffirming the UN’s support for Nigeria’s reform agenda and its growing leadership role in advancing peace, security, and development across Africa.
