Union Outlines Jurisdictional Scope For Members
An affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Iron and Steel Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, has outlined jurisdictional scope to guide the operations of her members in both categories ,Iron and steel senior Association of Nigeria (ISSSAN)and Fitters Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (FISSAN),
In a press statement signed by the General Secretary of the union ,comrade Adewale Okesola addressed to the chairman/secretary of Rivers state chapter of NLC and obtained by tide said the new jurisdictional scope was in compliance to the directive from the Registrar of trade union of the federal ministry of labour and Employment in decision reached at the Tripartite meeting held on the 11th September ,2020 at the federal ministry of labour and Employment with the Fitters senior staff Association of Nigeria (FISSAN )and the Iron and steel senior Association of Nigeria (ISSSAN ).
Part of the statement read thus “ISSSAN in compliance to the directive from the Registrar of Trade union in a letter to our office dated ,20th October 2020,wishe to disclaim all fitters operating as ISSSAN members and enjoin them to comply with decision reached that all senior staff professional fitters should be enlisted members of FISSAN .That is whatever position ,you are occupied in ISSSAN cease to exist by the order of this directive “
“While all employers in the manufacturing of basic iron and steel fabrication industry who are not junior workers ,that is all welders ,shall be ISSSAN members from now henceforth .This is the jurisdictional scope outlined in that decision to guide the operations of both ISSSAN and FISSAN .This notice and directive is applicable in all state “the statement added .
The Iron and Steel senior staff of Nigeria (ISSSAN) was established as an industrial union, registered by the Registrar of Trade union in trade union act of 1978.
