Rivers NUJ Election: Bazia, Madume, Others Pick Nomination Forms
As the August 5, Triennial Delegates’ Conference and Election of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council draws closer, a chairmanship hopeful, Comrade Paul Bazia of the state Ministry of Information Chapel, and Comrade Obiandu Madume, vying for the position of secretary from Rivers State Television Chapel, are among others under the NUJ Liberation Team, who have obtained their nomination forms to contest for the forthcoming election.
Also in that slate are Comrade Walson Ibim of Radio Rivers Chapel for vice chairman; Mrs Ifeoma Ossai, the current state council treasurer; Comrade Martins Giadom, financial secretary; and Comrade Tonye Orabere of The Tide Chapel for the post of auditor.
Both Bazia and Giadom have served as executive officers of the state council for the past three years, as vice chairman and financial secretary, respectively.
Speaking after collecting his nomination forms at the NUJ Secretariat in Port Harcourt, yesterday, the chairmanship hopeful promised to run a transparent, accountable and all-inclusive administration, adding that improved members’ welfare would be the fulcrum of his administration, if elected.
Bazia, averred that his administration must be accountable to the congress, saying that members whose mandate executive officers hold in trust must be accorded the due honour and respect they deserve through humility, empathy, quality representation and selfless service.
“The congress must be supreme in all our dealings. We shall accord congress that respect. They gave us the position, and the office we are occupying. Moreso, we will carry everybody along, and ensure that transparency, accountability and the well-being of our members form the basis of our administration,” he stated.
Also speaking, the aspirant for the secretary position, Comrade Obiandu Madume, promised to give the needed support to the chairman and other executive members to ensure that the team delivers progressive and people-oriented leadership to the union in the state, adding that as the engine of the secretariat, he would ensure quality record keeping, effective and efficient administration of the union, if elected.
The Tide reports that the chairmen of The Tide and Radio Rivers chapels, Comrade Amadi Akujobi Samuel and Lekia Godspower Anya, were among other numerous NUJ members that accompanied the aspirants to pick their forms under the 2021 NUJ Liberation Team.
It would be recalled that, last Monday, the current State Council Chairman, Stanley Job Stanley; and his Secretary, Ikechukwu Wigodo; also picked up their forms from the Credential Committee to contest for re-election.
