Rivers NUJ Scribe Wins Media Personality Award
The Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, Ike Wigodo has won the 2020 DMONA Media Personality Award for the South East and South South states in Nigeria.
The Online Media Award of Excellence is a unique and prestigious award conferred on people who have distinguished themselves in various disciplines and fields of endeavour including; the Academia, Engineering, Entertainment, the Legal profession as well as medical practice and even in politics.
The organisers of the prestigious Award of excellence last Tuesday, released a list of 50 winners out of 1,800 southern Nigerians nominated for the 2020 DMOMA Award edition.
The nominations came from various tribes (Igbo, Efik, Ijaw, Itshekiri, Annang, Ogoni, etc) in 11 states of South East and South-South States.
Some Sources said, Winning DMOMA Award is like winning high profile creative artefacts which can be auctioned for millions of naira in the nearest future.
“It’s the award for the real people who have done something significant for the people”.
Others who won in other categories include Commissioner for Health, Prof. Princewill Chike and his COVID 19 Response team, Commissioner for Housing, Chief Chinedum Tasie best Commissioner of the year.
Others are National Network as the Newspaper of the year, Godwin Obaseki as the Governor of the year while Bright Jossy won prolific writer of the year.
The online voting commenced on the 12th of October and ended on the 12th of November, 2020 while the Award night holds on the 12th of December 2020.

Technology Key to Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Development, Says Computer Scientist
Dr. Legborsi Emmanuel, former state Chairman of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), has emphasized that technology is the sure way for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
He made this assertion while speaking with newsmen at the sideline of 118th inaugural lecture series of Rivers State University (RSU) held in port Harcourt, wednesday.
He stressed that the lecture, which focused on emerging technology and its impact on the socio-economic development of the country, aligns with the NCS’s economic focus.
He highlighted the importance of building an economy driven by technology, citing the success of the Rivers State Smart Economy policy as an example.
The computer scientist emphasized the need for innovation and doing things differently, asserting that “technology is the only way out” for Nigeria’s development. He praised the lecturer, Professor Mathias Daniel, for exploring the applications of technology in various sectors, including agriculture, industry, transport, and socio-economics.
Dr. Emmanuel underscores the critical role technology plays in driving socio-economic growth and development in Nigeria by leveraging technology, the country can unlock new opportunities and address pressing challenges.
