C’River Raises N900m From LG Coffers To Fight Pandemic
About N900million is to be raised by 18 local governments areas in Cross River State to assist state government intensify the fight against the spread of COVID-19, which has eliminated many around the world in the last few weeks.
By that arrangement, the 18 LGAs are to make contribution of N50million each from its coffers to assist state government carry on with the fight against the spread of Coronavirus in the state.
The decision was sequel to a letter written by the state Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, to the leadership of the Cross River State House of Assembly, requesting the lawmakers’ approval that the 18 Local
Government Councils contribute N50million each to enable state government carry out the responsibility of containing the spread of Coronavirus.
The approval was given in a resolution taken during plenary after deliberating on the request contained in a letter forwarded to the Cross River State House of Assembly CRHA by the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG)Barrister Tina Banku Agbor.
The SSG’s letter stated that the state government desires, “to effectively pursue the implementation of measures that will curb the spread of Coronavirus”, adding that, “the main focus of government is to apply precautionary measures against contracting the virus.
“The Executive Council at its 6th emergency meeting of Wednesday 1st April, 2020, approved that the 18 Local Government Councils in the state key into the fight against COVID 19 by contributing N50 million only,” the SSG’s letter maintained.
The state legislators lauded the state governor for being proactive in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic currently ravaging the world adding that Governor Ayade has taken proactive steps to prevent the pandemic from spreading to the State.
The lawmakers, however, sued for the creation of Isolation centres in other parts of the state to effectively cater for any emergencies that may occur.
