70 N’Delta Youths Benefit From Total Bootcamp
Seventy youths from the Niger Delta are to benefit from a Total E&P Nigeria Limited two-week training and sensitisation Bootcamp tagged ‘Youths Konnect for Peace Network’.
The programme, holding at the Tinapa Business Resort in Calabar, was to educate and inspire the youths to shun social vices and be good ambassadors of the country.
Declaring the Bootcamp open, Deputy Managing Director of Total, Port Harcourt District, Mr Guillaume Dulout, said the camp was designed to train and engage the youths in productive activities.
Dulout, who was represented by Mr Okechukwu Obara, Community Relations Manager, said catching the youths young was imperative for nation building.
According to him, the Boot camp will educate and enlighten the youths to shun drug abuse, cultism, kidnapping, pipeline vandalism among others.
He explained that the camp would provide the youths with exposure and opportunities in key areas of training such as Information Technology and Resources, Entrepreneurial Development, Leadership, Career Goals and others.
He said that the training was the third in the series and expressed confidence that the current trainees would be better off after the programme.
He added that the project was also meant to build a network of sustainable peace in the company’s host communities and the Niger Delta region in general.
“This programme underscores our commitment to align our actions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“This is a further demonstration of the premium which the NNPC/Total E&P Nigeria Limited joint venture attached to the importance of youths in the development of the society.
“Statistics from the UN indicates that youths constitute 1.8billion of the global population with 87 per cent of them residing in developing countries.
“It is therefore imperative that this critical mass of the future world be shaped not just as passive beneficiaries of development efforts but as a force for positive social integration and change.
“These programme is structured to keep youths off social vices which are presently undermining the foundation of the society today,” he said.
He advised the youths to take the programme seriously and be mentally engaged in training for their overall development.
