Director Lauds Retirees Over Sports Dev
The Acting Director of Rivers State Sports Council, Mrs Mildred Hart has lauded the orgainsing secretaries of the council for honouring their retirees that have served meritoriously.
Mrs Hart who made the commendation during a sendforth ceremony organized to honour some retirees of the council held at their Conference Hall, Port Harcourt said the ceremony is what doing as the retirees had put in their best in sports development in the state.
She expressed delight that the retirees had laid solid platform that will take sports to greater heights in the country and congratulated them for their gallant services worthy of emulation.
The first female Acting Director of Sports in the council further thanked God that the senior citizens are still looking hale and healthy after 35 years of service and prayed God to also retire them in good health.
In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Christopher Chioma described the retirees as solid men of integrity and that although the sendforth is long over due of celebrating but they are blessing to them.
According to Chief Chioma, they have to be celebrated and glorify God because they scaled, through all the challenges while in service and that today they are in a position of trust.
In their separate speeches, retired former Directors of Sports, Hon. Daobu Harvest Harry, Hon. Christopher Fubara, Hon. Nathaniel Piaroana, Mr. Basil Wifa thanked all for their cooperation during their period of service and enjoined them to extend such to the present management for the growth of the council.
They charged the workers to be their brother’s keeper, stop petition writing, be punctual, plan for their future after retirement, be dedicated to work, plan to advance their career, stop parching, leave legacy on the sands of time, aimed at being on the top again during sports festivals and promised to offer their wealth of experience whenever they needed their services, thanking them for the honour while they prayed God to bless them.
In her address, the Head of Department Organising, Mrs Stella Kingoli opined that the retirees who are now senior citizens deserved the honour having sacrificed 35-years to serve the council meritoriously from the department and noted that their wealth of experience had in no small measure taken the council on its fast-track of improvement.
Mrs Kingoli assured them that their priceless efforts would always be referenced and pleaded for necessary assistance. Whenever their services are needed.
The retirees honoured were Hon. Daobu Harvest Harry, Hon. Nathaniel Piaro, Hon. Christopher Fubara, Mr. Benjamin Agina-obu, Mr. C.J. Ebeleogu, Mr. Kala-Alali Dede, Mr. Barisil Wifa, Mr. Ben Stowe and Brown Jauc.

PH To Host 2026 NWFL Super Six
In a statement released by the league, the competition is scheduled to take place from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, with six clubs set to battle for the league title at the end of the 2025/26 season.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the choice of Port Harcourt reflects the Rivers State Government’s continued support for women’s football and its successful hosting of the league’s Annual General Assembly last year.
The Super Six tournament will feature the top three teams from Group A and Group B of the regular season competing in a round-robin format, with each club playing five matches over nine days.
Qualified teams for the competition include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and debutants Abia Angels.
The NWFL Premiership has produced four different winners in the last five editions, with Rivers Angels winning in 2021, Bayelsa Queens claiming the title in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens triumphing in 2023, and Edo Queens emerging champions in 2024.
The league also urged participating clubs to comply with all competition regulations and directives ahead of the championship. The Super Six will determine Nigeria’s representative for the WAFU-B qualifiers for a place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and ultimately the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
Teams are expected to arrive on Friday, June 5, when the draw ceremony and pre-match meeting will also take place. Matchdays are scheduled for June 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14, with rest days in between before the tournament concludes with the trophy presentation ceremony.
