Rivers People Want Free, Fair Elections -NOA
The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Rivers State, says it is the wish of majority of Rivers people that their votes should count during the forth- coming general elections.
The state Acting Director of the Agency, Mr Young Ayotamuno who said this during a media interaction in Port Harcourt also said that Rivers people also want the election to be devoid of violence.
He said that the Agency has within the past few months embarked on sensitisation campaigns against vote buying, void votes and violence during the elections.
The Director said that the sensitation has taken the Agency round the nooks and crannies of the state, including markets, waterfronts and sundry place stressing that it was clear that there is readiness on the path of the people to participate in the forthcoming elections.
Dr Ayotamuno also said that the Agency is partnering with civil society organisations, faith based organisations and other bodies to reach out to the people.
According to him, the Agency has also held series of town hall meetings in the various local government areas to interact with the people, adding that most people across the state have high expectations that the elections will be free and fair.
The State acting NOA Director also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies for their commitment towards free and fair elections in the state.
While warning eligible voters to desist from selling their votes during the elections, he advised trouble makers to keep off as the security agencies are ready to deal with them.
