2019: LP Makes Case For Rivers Neighbourhood Corps
The Labour Party has made a case for the Rivers State Neighborhood Safety Corps Agency to assist the Police in providing security in the forth-coming general elections in the state.
The State Chairman of labour Party, Prince Felix Reuben made the call during a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Felix also said personnel of the corps will better provide security for staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) since they were familiar with the terrain to avoid being attacked by political thugs.
He also said that their presence at the polling units will scare thugs away because the personnel of the agency can easily identify the hoodlums.
He said, “you should know that they (the corps) are established by law, and if they are established by law, they are free citizens of the state, I do not see any reason why they cannot participate in the elections.
“ We should also know that the Police, that will be posted from different parts of this country, do not know the terrain of Rivers State more than these people.
“They are going to be the watchdog of police. They are going to also guide the INEC staff because they know the boys that will cause the problem and they can easily identify people that have questionable character”, Felix explained.
