Fish Sellers Task RSG On Favourable Policies
Creek Road Market Fish Sellers Association, Rivers State, has enjoined the Rivers State Government to enact policies that would enhance fish farming in the State.
Chairperson of the association, Mrs Celine Amamina, gave this charge in a chat with The Tide, weekend, in Port Harcourt.
Amamina noted that such policies would engender increased performance in the agricultural sector, improve fishing activities and boost the revenue base of stakeholders in the industry as well as create jobs opportunities.
She said with favourable policies, there will be access to funding which Amamina noted, is not existent at the moment.
The fish seller’s point woman observed that adequate funding would also bring about innovations and the use of technology, saying that it would also improve yield.
According to her “if the government could come up with policies that would enhance fish farming in the state, farmers and traders would be the better for it, because farmers would have access to funding, which would in turn enable fish farmers seek innovative farming methods and technologies where fish availability would no longer be according to the tides and seasons of the year”.
She also reasoned that fish, which Rivers people can be identified with, will now be easily affordable by every family.
