NGO Wants Women To Participate In NIR
President of a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Opobo Women Welfare Association (OWWA), Ama-Opu-Orubo Felicia Stephen Pepple, has urged Nigerians, especially Rivers women who are yet to enroll for the National Identification Number to do so at any nearby National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrolment centre.
Addressing women during this year’s August Conference of the group at Opobo Town, Pepple said that a time shall come when the identity card will be a major means of identification in Nigeria, which may be detrimental to those who failed to enroll.
The group leader said with the Identification Number one can have access to registration and renewal of driver’s license, international passport, as well as affirm his or her identity worldwide anytime.
According to her, such persons would benefit from government’s social scheme, open bank account, gain recruitment into public service, even access business registration at the Corporate Affairs Commission, government contract, tax filing and documentation, pension administration, into schools, among other benefits.
She admonished those who had registered but yet to collect the card to go and check if it is ready as the card could be used anywhere in the world, noting that it has a microchip.
Charging the women to brace up to the challenge and sensitise their subjects to register, she called on well-meaning individuals in the 23 local government areas of the state to support and sponsor the Identification registration processes.
On the event and its importance, Felicia Pepple stated that it is a platform to sensitize women on how to contribute towards building a better and healthy society, describing 2018 event as “most remarkable”.
She used the opportunity to appealed to government at all levels to support the group financially through soft loans to enable them cater effectively.
