Dickson Condemns Police Raid On Clark’s Residence
The Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon Seriake Dickson has condemned in strong terms the police raid on the Abuja residence of Ijaw National Leader and Elder statesman, Pa Edwin Clark.
A statement by Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Relations, Mr Fidelis Soriwei quoted him as having described the police action as reprehensible, shocking and condemnable.
He said that the action smacks of so much desperation, callousness and insensitivity in a country under democratic governance.
Governor Dickson said that police action showed lack of respect for the leaders in Nigeria and the people of the Niger Delta who have made sustained efforts to ensure the prevalence of peace in the region.
The Governor wondered how the police and indeed any security agency could associate a 92- year- old man and acclaimed leader of the Niger Delta with gun-running.
Dickson stressed that it was inconceivable, preposterous and indeed callous on the part of anybody or agency to subject the 92-year-old former Federal Commi-ssioner for Information with gun- running.
The Governor stated further that the police action was indeed an insult and an embarrassment which signified that law and order had broken down in the country.
The Governor called on the police authorities and those who authorised the embarrassing raid on the residence of the nonagenarian leader to tender an apology for the reckless action without delay.
Dickson said: “I condemned in very strong terms the recent raid on the residence of Ijaw National Leader, our father, Chief Edwin Clark.
“The police action signifies the height of callousness, insensitivity, and embarrassment not only to the person of the 92 year old leader but also to the Niger Delta and indeed all Nigerians of good conscience.
“It is shocking, inconceivable and preposterous for anybody to associate Pa Clark, a former Federal Commissioner, and Senator and a Leader of his people with gunrunning at the age of 92. This is sad and unacceptable.
“I call on all those behind this infamy to retrace their steps and tender an unreserved apology to Pa Clark and Nigerians without any further delay.”
He urged the relevant authorities to punish those responsible for the annoying action.

Make God Your Anchor To Fulfill Destiny, Cleric Charges Christians … As Jaja Marks 70th Birthday
The Lead Pastor at Jesus Appointed People’s Bible Church, Ozogbe, Ikwerrengwo-Etche, in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Pastor Promise Nwaelele, has urged Christians to make God the anchor of their lives in whatever position they find themselves, in order to attain the destinies set for them by God.
Pastor Nwaelele, who gave the charge recently in a sermon he preached at the 70th birthday anniversary thanksgiving service of Sir Donald Michael Jaja, a veteran journalist in Rivers State, said this is because any genuine child of God is a permanent target for destabilization and destruction by the devil.
Taking his text from the Bible book of Mark 4:16-17, the preacher stated that fulfilment in life for a child of God required faith, obedience to God’s word, humility and grace to withstand trials and temptations.
According to him, temptations and afflictions are bound to happen in the lives of those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
“No wonder the Bible said that those that endure till the end shall be saved”, he said.
The Clergyman said God prospers believers who are humble, not proud and conceited, and leads them to destiny fulfilment.
“David said in Psalm 51:17, that the sacrifices acceptable to God are a broken spirit, not an impatient or proud spirit”, the preacher said.
He called on Christians not to allow persecutions and afflictions to sway them from the love and blessings of Jesus Christ.
On his part, Jaja, a seasoned Journalist who retired as an Acting Editor of the Rivers State Government-owned The Tide Newspaper, gave thanks to God for honouring him by giving him the grace of attaining 70 years.
“I cannot capture what the good Lord has done for me in my entire life in this fleeting moment of thanksgiving. But, I know that without Him, I wouldn’t have been who I am today, in all spheres. Therefore, my joy knows no bounds as I give thanks to my creator today, alongside my family. Praise be His holy name”, Jaja said.
