NASS Impeachment Threat In Order, Group Insists …We’ve No Response -Presidency

A socio-political group, Kwara Solidarity Forum (KSF) has hailed National Assembly’s decision to invoke their power on the executive arm of government if President Muhammad Buhari does not stop the intimidation and harassment of perceived enemies of the President, especially members of the National Assembly, among other issues.
A statement by its National Coordinator, Kashamu Lawal, yesterday, stated: “President Buhari has committed too many impeachable offences. His disposition to the actions of his appointees, from Comptroller General of Customs; former SGF, Babachir Lawal; IGP Ibrahim Idris, and acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, among others, which has brought the institution of the Senate to ridicule are testament to his high level of incompetence.
“The news about the lawmakers threat to invoke their power on the executive, brought some relief to so many of us who are concerned about protecting the nation’s nascent democracy. “Beyond this threat by the NASS, we are fully in support of the National Assembly to exhibit it’s constitutionally empowered right by walking the talk and begin impeachment proceedings against the President.
“The NASS should go beyond issuing threats like it has been doing in the past, three years display of incompetence, total disregard for the rule of law as well as abuse and excessive use of power by the President, are enough reasons for NASS to have invoked its power long time ago.
“For allowing the withdrawal of $496million from the Excess Crude Account, without the approval of the National Assembly in total violation of Section 80 (1-4) of the Constitution, stands out among many other impeachable offences of the President.
“Section 80 (3) clearly states that: “No moneys shall be withdrawn from any public fund of the Federation, other than the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation unless the issue of those moneys has been authorised by an Act of the National Assembly.”
The group while declaring its total support for the National Assembly, described the impeachment threat as a right step in the right direction, saying, what it expect from NASS now is to go beyond mere talks and match it with action to put an end to the raging impunity in the nation.
However, the Presidency has maintained sealed lips over Tuesday’s impeachment threats by the National Assembly after its joint session.
The legislature had threatened to invoke its constitutional powers on President Muhammadu Buhari over some perceived constitutional breaches.
But asked to respond to the 12-point resolutions the legislature had asked the president to strictly adhere to or face its constitutional powers, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu refused to comment.
Shehu, who was asked if the President was aware of the impeachment threats on him, simply responded by saying, “I have nothing to say on that”.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.

As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

Allegation of Disrespect to President Tinubu Unfounded — Rivers Government
