Omoku: COEASU Hails Wike On Security

Chairman of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) in the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Pastor Oweisana Akpos has commended the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike over improved security in the area.
Akpos, in a chat with The Tide in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, last Monday, said the recent effort by the state government in collaboration with security forces to track down miscreants terrorising the area has brought peace and restored confidence of the people in the government.
The COEASU chairman averred that the union suffered the highest during the period of the crisis as 16 of its members were kidnapped between 2015 – December, 2017.
According to him, they lost one academic staff, Dr. Maduenyi, who was kidnapped and has not been released till date.
Due to the frequent kidnap and shootings within the period, Akpos stated that many staff of the school relocated, while others avoided attending classes in order not to fall prey to the kidnappers.
He, however, said that since the state government and security agencies swung into action, resulting in the subsequent killing of some of the kingpins causing mayhem in the area, normal academic activities have started in the school.
“Omoku is picking up. Before, if you were travelling to Omoku, and you didn’t get here before 6pm, nobody will pick you up”, Akpos said.
