NAFDAC Cautions Medicine Dealers On Fake Drugs
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, (NAFDAC), has called on patent medicine dealers in Delta State to desist from selling unauthorised drugs and vaccines in their premises.
State Coordinator of the agency, Jude Ndekile, said this in Asaba, the state capital, while displaying some unwholesome products confiscated by the agency.
Mr Ndekile, who is an assistant director, observed that some patent medicine dealers sell drugs that are beyond their mandate.
According to him, drugs such as high dose tramadol of 120ml, 200ml and 25ml were being sold in patent medicine stories, while banned drugs like anlagen injection gentamycine 20 injections, and other injectables were found in some stores”.
Ndekile further stated that, some stores were found to be selling Oxytocin, tetanus toxoids and other vaccine drugs that are supposed to be refrigerated but were displayed in shelves, stressing that patent medicine dealers should sell only OTC drugs which their licenses cover, adding that those contravening the law will no longer be made to pay administrative fine but face prosecution.
The coordinator also said that some pharmaceutical stores were also sanctioned for offences relating to inappropriate storing of drugs, sells of banned and expired drugs.
Meanwhile, the agency has presented 100 plastic chairs to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Delta State.
The presentation which took place at the orientation camp, Isseleuku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state was preceded by the agency address which urged the corp members to join hands in the fight against counterfeit and unwholesome products.
