Anti-Graft War: EFCC Solicits Media Partnership
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called on the media to partner with the commission on the on-going war against corruption in the country.
The South-South Zonal Director of EFCC Mr. ishaku Salihu made this call during a one-day training workshop organised by the commission for selected media organizations in the zone at the Golf Prince Hotel, Abana Street, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday.
Salihu said the media were key players in the fight against corruption, adding that media as agents of development must key into the project to sensitise members of the public on the workings of the commission.
Earlier in their presentations, the Provost, Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Mr. Gbenga Ogunleye, the Editor-In-Chief, Premium Times, Muskulu Mojeed and Lucky Osaddior-Igozie, a Broadcast media expert, canvassed for the amendment of the EFCC Act in other to make it more independent.
They tasked journalists to investigation journalism, adding that investigative journalism, adding that investigative journalism was key in reporting corruption, cases.
The resource persons urged the media to be conversant with the laws guiding the profession in other to hold those entrusted with governance accountable to the people, adding that the media must rise to its constitutional responsibility to assist relevant government agencies in the on-going war against corruption.
The role of journalism in fighting corruption, the lesson from abroad, law, journalists and fight against corruption and Electronic media and investigative journalism, new trends and opportunities were some topics discussed during the one-day workshop.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
