Amnesty: Rivers Unveils Rehab Pack

Rivers State Government will rehabilitate and re-integrate cultists and militants who participated in the ongoing amnesty programme declared by the government, the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has said.
Responding to a request by President of the Ijaw National Congress(INC), Alatubo Charles Harry during a courtesy visit by the group at Government House, Port Harcourt yesterday, Chief Wike said part of the amnesty programme will be to rehabilitate and re-integrate those who have embraced government gesture.
The governor however pointed out that, “ our amnesty is not predicated on cash reward but we will make sure they are re-integrated into the society. So be assured that those involved will be rehabilitated, re-orientated, trained and re-integrated into the society.”
On the ongoing quest by his administration to develop the state, Chief Wike assured them that no part of the state will be left behind, explaining that he will make sure the mandate given to him by Rivers people is utilised for the betterment of all sections of the state.
Chief Wike described the ijaws as the fourth largest ethnic group in the country, who have contributed immensely to the state and economic well being of Nigeria.
He urged them not to relent in their quest for equity in governance and natural resource in the country,but implored against sabotage of national assets in the bid to get their demand implemented
Charging the new INC leadership to be focused, the governor stressed the need for unity, ” we must work together as a team and move the interest of Niger Delta.”
He promised that the state government will work with all groups , including the INC to transform the state, as he urged them not to relent in proferring solutions to the varied problems confronting the state.
In his address earlier, President of INC , Alatubo Charles Harry commended Chief Wike for his developmental efforts to touch all parts of the state, especially the ijaws in the riverine while citing the bridge at Abonnema and the ongoing Nembe/Bille jetty as, “a masterpiece in development.”
The INC president while lauding the amnesty programme initiated by the state government recommended that government should utilize the Social Institute at Okehi to train the youths in vocations and re-integrate them into the society.
