Okrikans Flay Security Agencies’ Intimidation Of Dame Jonathan

The Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs (ODCC) has condemned the alleged harassment and intimidation of the former First lady, Dame Patience Jonathan by the security agencies.
Chairman of the council, Chief Sunday Kalaowoto, who said this at a press briefing last Friday in Port Harcourt, also declared the support of Wakirike Bese Chiefs to Mrs Jonathan and her husband, stressing that the Chiefs were not happy with the law enforcement agencies for the apparent unjust treatment of the former first lady.
“As Chiefs of Wakirike Bese, we are Omuaru Wari Alapu and custodians of traditional and socio-cultural values of the Okrika-speaking Ijaw people both at home and in the Diaspora, while also protecting their overall interest in accordance with the rule of law.
“In doing this, one of the most cherished values of the Wakirike people is mutuality of respect, especially in the socio-political realities of our current co-existence as Nigerians.
“It is a matter of great concern to us that whereas every other former First family of Nigeria has not been disrespected, harassed and ridiculed, that has not been the lot of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his darling wife, “the Chiefs said.
They noted that, Nigeria owes the former first Family much more than they have been given credit for, adding that former President Jonathan and his family deserve to be respected for the unprecedented selfless, patriotic and exemplary manner in which the former First Family handed over power in a truly democratic process.
According to the Chiefs, since the Jonathans are not under any criminal investigation, there was absolutely no justification for their constant harassment by law enforcement agencies.
“As their law-abiding traditional leader, such unbecoming conduct of our law enforcement agencies is completely unacceptable to us”, they said.
